Delaroche’s dramatic painting The Execution of Lady Jane
Grey evokes the tragic reality of one of the most shameful episodes in English history. Lady Jane Grey was little known to the Tudor public, yet in 1533 she famously ruled as Queen of England for just nine days. A feisty teenager and religious radical, she was fated to become the victim of ambitious men, and her story, told by historian Alison Weir, vividly illustrates the political power struggles of a ruthless age.
