November saw an article in the press about a possible new painting of Lady Jane Grey being identified by John Stephan Edwards.
The painting by Hans Eworth is on display at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge and had previously been labelled as ‘Mary I when Princess.’ It is currently labelled as ‘Unknown Lady (Perhaps Lady Jane Grey)’ in the online collections database.
The December issue of History Today included an article by Edwards. ‘A New Face for the Lady’ contained his arguments for identifying the portrait as Jane.
Books that featured Jane included: ‘England’s Boy King: The Diary of Edward VI, 1547-1553’ edited by Jonathan North, ‘The Uncrowned Kings of England: The Black Legend of the Dudleys’ by Derek Wilson, ‘Elizabeth Wydeville – The Slandered Queen’ by Arlene Okerlund and ‘Katherine Howard: A Tudor Conspiracy’ by Joanna Denny.
