He argued that the last performance of Rowe&#8217;s play was not at Covent Garden, London in 1774 but at The Theatre Royal, Hull in 1852.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;On the Nature of Women: Tudor and Jacobean Portraits of Women 1535-1620\u2019 exhibition opened at Montacute House, Somerset on April 30th (see <a href=\"https:\/\/ladyjanegrey.info\/?p=641\" style=\"text-decoration: none\"><font color=\"#150567\"><i><b>blog<\/a><\/font><\/i><\/b>). It includes the National Portrait Gallery portrait, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npg.org.uk\/collections\/search\/portrait\/mw01958\/Unknown-woman-formerly-known-as-Lady-Jane-Dudley-ne-Grey?LinkID=mp01373&#038;search=sas&#038;sText=lady+jane+grey&#038;role=sit&#038;rNo=0\" style=\"text-decoration: none\"><font color=\"#150567\"><i><b>\u2018Unknown Woman, formerly known as Lady Jane Dudley (nee Grey)&#8217; <\/a><\/b><\/i><\/font>. The exhibition runs until October 2009.<\/p>\n<p>It was reported in the press in May that Alison Weir and Tracy Borman had discovered a copy of a portrait of Henry VIII, Will Somers, Edward, Mary and Elizabeth at Boughton House, Northamptonshire (see <a href=\"https:\/\/ladyjanegrey.info\/?p=646\" style=\"text-decoration: none\"><font color=\"#150567\"><i><b>blog <\/i><\/font><\/b><\/a>). They suggested that the portrait of the young Princess Elizabeth could be used to identify the National Portrait Gallery\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npg.org.uk\/live\/search\/portrait.asp?search=ss&amp;sText=lady+jane+grey&amp;LinkID=mp01373&amp;rNo=0&amp;role=sit\" style=\"text-decoration: none\"><font color=\"#150567\"><i><b>\u2018Unknown Woman, formerly known as Lady Jane Dudley (nee Grey)&#8217;<\/b><\/i><\/a><\/font>. An article by Weir and Borman appeared in the June issue of BBC History Magazine. The portrait was on display at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boughtonhouse.org.uk\/\" style=\"text-decoration: none\"><font color=\"#150567\"><i><b>Boughton House <\/b><\/a><\/i><\/font>during August.<\/p>\n<p>The June issue of &#8216;Notes and Queries&#8217; featured a further article about the birth date of Lady Jane by Dr J Stephan Edwards. In &#8216;A Further Note on the Date of Birth of Lady Jane Grey&#8217; he argued that Jane was born in the second half of 1536.<\/p>\n<p>A portrait of Mary Grey (possibly by Hans Eworth) was on display as part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comptonverney.org.uk\/modules\/events\/event.aspx?e=44&#038;title=special_display__portraits_from_chequers_kings_queens_and_revolutionaries\" style=\"text-decoration: none\"><font color=\"#150567\"><i><b>Portraits from Chequers: Kings, Queens and Revolutionaries&#8217;<\/b><\/font><\/i><\/a><\/fomnt exhibition at Compton Verney from June 7th to December 14th.\n\nIn July, Alison Weir gave a talk on \u2018The Tragedy of Lady Jane Grey\u2019 at the English Heritage Festival of History. Eric Ives gave a talk at Warwick Library in September about his upcoming work on Lady Jane.\n\nLeanda de Lisle very kindly answered my questions about her new book, 'The Sisters Who Would Be Queen', which is out in January.
