Was Jane Queen for 9 or 13 days?

Whilst history remembers her as the 9 days queen because she was only proclaimed queen on 10 July, technically her reign ought to have been dated from the date of Edward’s death on 6 July. Historians seem to sit on both sides of this argument, as many will say a reign begins with the day of proclamation, but I assume that it begins as soon as the previous monarch has passed away. The question of Jane’s succession has long been debated, and so I think it is best to leave her as history remembers her – the Nine Days Queen.

Personally due to the fact that it was Janes father not Jane herself who sort to put her upon the throne, I tend to go not to go with the thirteen day theory from the date Edward VI died including the brief interval before Jane’s public proclamation while the succession was being disputed. She was in my mind forced into the role of Queen for nine days of de facto rule to Mary’s accession.
