Amanda Whittington’s drama, as its title suggests, deals with Lady Jane Grey, proclaimed Queen of England at the age of 16 in 1553 but beheaded in the Tower of London a year later. The intricacies of Tudor politics, bastard queens, male issue, inheritance and religious hatred remain an impenetrably dense fog in the background, but what lifts it is actress Loo Brealey’s voice and interpretation of Jane as devout but headstrong, an attractive mix of vulnerability and personal strength.

Daily Mail – Weekend TV Guide

When Henry VIII’s daughters, Mary and Elizabeth, were pronounced illegitimate, scheming and ambitious relatives proclaimed Lady Jane grey queen. Just 16, she reigned for nine days, and paid with her life for the plotting of others. This drama follows Jane’s doomed, desperate attempts not to be a pawn in a deadly power game.
